Lafayette Square: Protest in the People’s Park

Lafayette Square has been continually reclaimed by demonstrators from dozens of social movements for protest and political strategy for over 100 years, including disability rights protesters in 1977, advocating for the passage of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

“Section 504 Sit-In of 1977” was awarded a University of Minnesota 2023 U-Spatial graduate mapping prize for “Most Transformative” map!
